Hi, all! I have some room for a new pet and I want everybody’s opinions. Of course snails are my #1 and I don’t want recommendations for dogs and cats either because I already have a lovely little chihuahua.
What is a kind of animal you can keep that can be easily handled, can be kept in pretty compact spaces, does not need loads of care and attention, and that does not stink?
I know all of that pretty much sums up a snail but if there is any others, please let me know!

Slugs? Larger ones need pretty disproportionately large tanks, but I have a couple of juveniles in a salad take out container. They basically are taken care of like a snail, but can't keep hydrated by sealing off a shell and hibernating. Conversely, they don't need the large amounts of calcium snail's need to maintain their shells. I don't give any substrate, just wetted paper towels changed once a week. Feed the same stuff you feed snails. Mist with purified water daily. Leopard slugs are pretty cool and can get to be about 8 inches long. You can just find a damp place like under an evergreen and turn over leaves until you find one. Took me about 20 minutes to find my slugs. Do not put slugs in with your snails. They might predate your snails depending on the species and I doubt the snails will be too happy with new slug room mates. If in a crowded container, they will cannabilize.

Tree frogs are cute and easy to take care of. Tarantulas are pretty cool too. I have a tarantula, grey tree frog, and a green tree frog.

I think a leopard gecko would be nice. I'm getting one soon, and they fit your exact criteria from what I've heard.

Tarantulas or slugs are some of the best low management pets imo. Though if you hold a tarantula you must realize you are taking a risk. I'd go for sluggers if you're already into snailies.
