Hi everyone! My name is Kate and I just joined today. I live in Ontario, Canada and am very enthusiastic about snails. I thought I'd introduce you to some of the snails I am keeping at the moment. I found all of these snails myself in various places across Ontario. They all seem to get along well together and are very active! Most of the snails have names referencing the area where I found them; the snails with names ending in "cat" were all found in Guelph (which seems to be a hot-spot for Cepaea by the way). I have a soft spot for Forks who must have had an eye injury at some point as one stalk is almost divided in two at the tip. I believe it is a Neohelix albolaris but if anyone has an ID please share as I'm not too sure. I'm particularly interested in the different colour morphs of Cepaea nemoralis and plan to do some research on them this summer. I am aware that some colour morphs seem to be more common in certain habitats and that this may be due to what predators are around. If anyone has done their own research on these snails I'd be very happy to hear it! If anyone else lives in Ontario and would like to talk about colour morphs they have seen feel free to mention below

I can't identify snails because I don't know them enough, but when you said you have a soft spot for Forks, it reminded me that Peanut, my favorite snail, retracts all the time! So it seems that we snail keepers tend to prefer injured snails?

There's a book you can get from the Canadian Food Inspection Agency called Identifying Land Snails and Slugs in Canada. It is a fantastic book, I have met two of the authors and they really know their stuff. You can get this book for free from the agency if you give them a call. I cant find the number in my emails, but 'm sure you can find it online It really helps with identifying snails, it has a key and pictures at the back. Yeah Forks is a cool snail in general! He has a lot of character, and likes to hang out in a certain corner of the tank, whereas the others just hang out wherever. He is also very mellow. The grove snails are very aggressive, but Forks, the whitelip snail, tends to wait his turn at the food pile even though he's the biggest.

Hello! I am new myself. Joined today as well. I live in Texas and I have what I believe to be a neohelix albolabris as well! Though, not too sure if it is this either.

Welcome to the forum! Yeah there are a few similar species, but I think it's probably whitelip. If you post a pic of your snail I'm sure someone could confirm its ID!
