Was this was dripping of pure liquid or looked it like this: One of my tiger has this from time to time and when you look close on this slimey-thing that is coming out of his airhole you can see lots of little round bubbles in. When he has this he is slower than normal and not or only very smalll amounts eating for days. We have discussed this already a few times on Geli`s german forum and some others experienced similar with their tigers. This slime was variing in colour (from bright yellow to clearly white and from fluidy to really thick and hard. An reason could be infertil (not ready) eggs? No clue what this really is, but the snails act normal after a while. And it only happend with tigers from several places and they had never contact to others having this.

Could this be of any help, from that Nisbet paper:
"sharp, tap on its head produces a powerful contraction of the columellar muscle and a sustained inhibition of the heart. If the stimulus is a damaging one, there is also a massive orange-green secretion from the glands of the collar. The secretion appears to be not so much repugnatorial as entangling and distracting to small predators (see Durrell, 1958).

Öhm, I do not really understand the whole sentence as I miss my English-German-Dictionary and the translater sounds more than stupid. ;D The translator tells me something that the snail gets pressure on its head and other animals are eating it then.... ;D

It is saying that when Achatinids are provoked or attacked they can secrete a orange-green fluid that is distracting to predators.
The picture looks like congealed slime to me. They blow bubbles when they retract quickly.

the liquid is clear and runny.

If it is clear and runny it sounds like normal mucus gland secretion. If it is over-producing slime when it is touched perhaps he's a little frightened. Anyone with Zachrysia will know that when you try and pick them up, they produce lots of thin, clear, runny slime that makes them difficult to get hold of. If, on the other hand, it is doing it all the time, perhaps it has the equivalent of a cold - overactive mucus glands.

I was getting confused, I thought Geli had the problem, then I realised it isn't so my congealed comment was on the wrong snail You're first post mentions "this bright yellow liquid dripping off him" so when you say clear do you mean it is still yellow but transparent, not colourless? The paper doesn't mention anything other than what I posted so it doesn't give any indication if it is thick and opaque or thin and clear. Can you can get a photo, like always I'd like to document all these things on the problem section, however harmless even if we're not sure what it is yet.

;D Do that. But I usually give mine a shower every evening and that make them clean and fresh. I also wash the sphagnum every 14:th day, so they got a clean home. Don't use dust, soil or other dirty substrate. You can at least try it to see if your tiger looks less slimy in a week or so . / Lotta

he seems to be a bit better now, he managed to nearly climb up the side of the tank last night, so i couldn't get a decent pic, grrr where the red lines are, had come away from the top of the foot, so it looked like nothing was holding him in, it's better in this pic, but was a lot worse. I don't know what it was but it's a lot better now :-)

Oh, I am so sorry, Sarah! One of my Tigers too is sitting since a few days on a salad-leaf and just nibbling a bit on it and not moving at all. Only when I spray him warm he is coming a bit more out of his shell. Sarah, we cannot tell how old this wildcaughts are or what deseasis they are already having in them.

OH NO!! Sarah, i'm soo sorry I know how you feel 'cause i've lost enough over the past year - but i saved more ;D which makes it worth while. Was it your Brixton Tiger?? If it was then...as its been said before, we don't know the age of these wild caughts, and you can feel good that he died being loved and looked after and not as someones dinner!!! You did a good job and you loved him - well done girlie. Anjie,x.

Thanks guys, yes he was one of the Brixton's, but the other two are doing fine and have lots of new shell growth, and now two new albino tank mates :-)
