Hey everyone, I joined a Facebook group recently that is very similar to this forum and introduced myself as being from Canada. A guy commented on my post saying that if I took a look at some local fish markets I may be able to find live milk snails. Has anyone seen this before? Thanks!

Hi tigersnail,
I'm not in Ontario, and my family and I never go in fish markets, so I can't tell. Also, what are milk snails anyway? You don't need to tell me they're snails, I know that already. 😜 I'm going to guess they're native in Ontario?

Milk snail = Otala lactea
Well, usually. I've also heard reports of people finding live snails in certain Ontarian markets, but I don't know where exactly.

Thanks for the comments! I'll have to take a look this summer. They're not native in Canada seastar, I think they're from the Mediterranean. But they are legal for live import into Canada (The only ones that are legal I think...).

I think I saw an Otala when I was in Spain, but the poor thing was dead Milk snails are very beautiful, I think they are the ones I used to have when I was a child (black/brown and white)

Still haven't taken a look at any local fish markets, so I probably should before summer disappears! 😲
