Hi everyone! About an hour ago, it was raining, so my parents allowed me to go "snail hunting". I wanted to get 3 Cepaea hortensis, and the snail hunting was a success! I've got 3 new snailies: Cupcake, Lemon and Berry! Unfortunately, I don't have pictures yet, because I've just got them and I don't want to disturb them. So I can only describe them physically for now. I'll take some pictures tomorrow! Cupcake is a pinkish/brown-shelled snail with a black line. His body is dark grey. Lemon is a yellow-shelled snail, he's stipeless. His body is very pale. Berry is a snail with a very special shell; it's red, green and yellow, with a few lines! Her body is grey too. I cannot wait until I can share a few pictures! They'll meet my Cepaea nemoralis in two weeks, when their quarantine period is over. I also hope they can cohabitate with Anguispira alternata (I'll look for some this summer). Have a nice evening! seastar

As they grow they may develop a brown lip to their shell. In juvenile Cepaea nemoralis their mantle covers the edge of their shell, so they may not be C. hortensis. I don't know if C. hortensis can be found in this area.. I've heard both arguments though!

I've checked, and I'm pretty sure they're Cepaea hortensis. If I'm wrong, I'll simply have more Cepaea nemoralis!

Thanks! And also thank you to my parents! They could've said no, but they said yes!

Update: actually, tigersnail was a bit right. I think that Cupcake and Berry were unmature Cepaea nemoralis. Though, I'll only be able to confirm when they'll breed: since I'm convinced that Lemon is a hortensis, will Cupcake and Berry breed with my nemoralis or with Lemon? Just for fun, if you feel like it, you can try to guess (but not bet)!

I'm guessing Cupcake and Berry will breed with both Lemon and nemoralis (for example maybe Cupcake with Lemon and Berry with another). It will be interesting to find out the results, good luck!

I think they're Cepaea hortensis, but I can't say whether Cupcake and Berry are hortensis or nemoralis... I'm pretty sure Lemon is a hortensis, though.
