My marginata managed to get under a shelf in his tank with barley 1cm above him, has gone right into the corner and now I think he is stuck. He has part of his body out of his shell and a few times I have seen his face turning round but he’s facing outwards and can’t seem to turn, he hasn’t come out to eat but I have been managing to spray him. Just wondering if it’s possible that he is stuck because I can’t reach him and if he really is then I don’t know what to do

It's probably best to take the shelf out carefully, because if he is stuck, then it cant stay in there anyway. Good luck.

How long has he been there?

It’s all glass the shelves are like welded onto the sides and at funny angles so it’s impossible for me to reach under this shelf after I have bent my arm round all the others. I only moved him into it last week but he’s been under there a few days now.

Is it a gerbil tank? he ones sold in PAH with the sloping shelves? In which case he probably is stuck, as they come down at the fronts don't they?
I'm not sure how to advise you to get him out (sorry) but if/when you do, if he was stuck I'd consider a different setup/tank for him.

If clearance is only 1cm when he's inside his shell, or only his head poking out, I'd say he was probably stuck, as his body would bump him up against the shelf. I dont think it sounds like a suitable tank for a snail his size, it might be worth getting either a plain fish tank for him, or a storage box (much cheaper and easier to clean!)

Try this site Trogador: www.photobucket.comThey let you make free albums you can link to. When you've uploaded a picture just write a normal post and click on the insert image button and put in the URL of the image you've uploaded (You can get that by right clicking it on the photobucket site and selecting properties). Hope that helps!

he probably does move in the night, mine to that, they move in the night and go back to exactly the same position, i know this because when i had a tiger in a tank on his own, i put some food onto a platform and in the morning i thought 'whats wrong with him? why hasn't he moved? then i noticed the food has been knocked off the platform, lol, he must have climbed up the side of the tank to get to the platform

I have tried to get him out but I can’t reach him and I would leave him be but he hasn’t touched his food which is why I thought he is stuck?

If you really think he's stuck then ummm can you get a bendy coathanger or something - one of those wire ones and try to hook him out - gently of course! Have you tried tipping the tank to one side to see if he slides out? Anjie,x.

What about using the coathanger idea to move some of the soil from underneath and around him so it creates more room above him.

I have a tank like that it is impossible to get your hand to the back under the bottom shelf. i will certainly bare this in mind as mine get bigger. Hubby has had a look at ours, and it seems the only way to get the shelves out is to try to pick all the sealant away from the shelf. That will take ages though, and you have to remove the top one before you can get to the bottom one. if you poke him so re retracts will it make him a bit smaller to tip the tank up and carefully roll him out?

could you not removed all the substrate and then lube the snail up with some cooking oil and slide it out. If it got in there with all the substrate I am sure you would be able to get it out if you lube it up and remove the substrate. Also I think if you cover any snail in cooking oil its gonna start getting worried and may move pretty quickly on its own Otherwise I would just cut the silicone on the shelf as mentioned previously. Brian.

I don't really think those tanks are ideal for large species like margies and tiger, not only because of this reason but as well you have to limit how deep the subsrate can be and i don't think it's deep enough...

how's it going? i would remove everything but the snail- gently tip the tank up if you need to get every thing is out, then try and loop something under it like a wire or cloth -you may need to spray the snail to try to get his head in and so you can slide it out. if you loop a cloth round him so you might be able twist tim if you need. Other wise you'll prob will have to start tacking the tank apart.

I agree with the thought that these tanks are not ideal. someone posted a pic of one on here before and it looked fantastic but I had the concern of the snails falling and hitting of the edges of the shelves. Now we have one that is wedged in. I think these tanks are best kept for there intended use (is it mice or rats or similar?) as they are purpose built for them. Maybe some small smails would be ok but I still think the edges of those shelves could do some damage to a falling snail. Brian

;D Got him!!! Thank you for all the help, we ended up emptying the tank and spraying the bottom so it was slippery then used some kitchen tongs to pull him out. He's eating a banana now And I will be getting a new tank for them asap.
