Went to check on B+M, the big margies, in their new tank. Half an hour before, I'd gone in and found them both hanging from the top - well, Boycie was holding on to the roof, and Marlene was hanging off him - looking around. Now I've checked them again, and something made me a bit worried. Here's how I found her: As you can see, near her genital opening - she's swollen up, as if there's something white in there trying to get out. I thought it was an egg, then I noticed (and you will if you look carefully) that there was this pinky orange stuff coming out of her privates. Now I thought it was a poo, and I guess it might be - but it wasn't anything like snail poo normally is. It looked/felt like raw meat? She went back in her shell for 10 seconds or so (because I'd had to pick her up to check on her), and when she came back out, the lump was gone, and there was this coming out of her bits: It's solid, kinda rubbery feeling (I know, I'm gross and I check these things *lol*). Any idea what it might be? Incidentally, they have both been eating loads more than usual, but that might not be connected, because it took them a while to settle in after coming to us - so it might just be normal for them, just not happened here til now. Anyway, any idead what that thing is/was?

Well first things first it's not poo because they poo out of the anus which is situated near the lung in the air hole. It could be infertile eggs, is it still there? I think if she is still active, eating and seems generally the same as before then there is nothing to worry about, if you want you can seperate her from Boycie in case it is a parasite causing it but i doubt it is.

Lisa, in the last pic...is that thing out of the genital opening or just coming out?? Has she totally passed it i mean? I have no idea what it is, i've never seen it before but i would have thought that its better out than in I really really hope she's ok, i'm sure she will be ;D Maybe they have mated and its just a malformed egg kind of thing or just a run up to her laying. Sorry I can't be of any more help Lisa. Anjie,x.

She's fine - out and about and eating ok - in the first pic, the mushy orangey stuff was on the tub next to her, but the white thing was inside her, and it had some orange stuff on it - so it's definitely come from in there.
They were both hanging off the roof together earlier, and Kathy says they're looking shifty, so I think they've been up to no good. I caught them both laid down having a ciggie *lmao*
They have been eating loads more, they've eaten loads of cuttlefish over the last couple of weeks, and both of them are loads more active and greedy. Do you think they might be preparing for eggs? And this was a dud one? It didn't feel like an egg, it didn't have a hard shell, it was rubbery.

I don't know, that looks a little close to the opening to be an egg But i may be wrong, photos can look different to the real thing..

Nope - it was in the open space of the shell further back, couple of inches in? My camera, as you can see, is crap.
But if you're right, what other round/oval white object would be inside him? It's never been there before.

i dunno, lol some of my snails have had a 'lump' inside there, either that or they've been pregnant for a long long time Never in a margie though so it is likely to be an egg :-)

I just thought it must be, what with this thing that came out of Marlene - it could mean they mated a couple of weeks back, when the first cuttlefish boom happened, and that they might be having babies.
Like I said, I'm not sure, I just cant think of what else they could be. What with Marlene also having an egg sized bulge in her neck in the first pic (at the top of the thread, not my last ones cos they're Boycie). I've seen in the past what I thought was an egg, but turned out to be Marlene's innards (for want of a better word), but they were to the left through the breathing hole, rather than at the back in the space.

yes you can only really tell when they are all the way out of their shell or else t could just be part of their body

On these pics, Boycie was attempting to climb my arm, his body was fully out - and then some - any further and he'd have to be Mr Fantastic *lol*

It would be nice if it is, but I wont get my hopes up, because I could be wrong. I hope the change of tank doesn't affect things, if they are though?

Awww I hope it is eggs for you!! I've looked into my fulicas holes before and seen eggs right at the entrance, obviously it might be different with margies though or it might be how ready they are to be laid? The goo and other lump thing look really weird

I think I may have been mistaken. There was no sign of one last night. It must have been a stray snowball ;D
