Can someone tell me please the best way to pack 4 snails? they are about 3 - 4 inch in shell size and i am really wanting some ideas, I was thinking of putting a large plastic cake tray (u know from dognuts or something) section it into 4 and putting in moss and then securly closing the lid and putting then into one square box, they putting that box inside another one with about an inch all round where i pack this again to make sure they are secure and the chances of the box being able to move about inside slim, I have to send there snails, we are moving, hard to see them go but they are going to a great home but i would be gutted if they did not make it there with being in poor packaging, please anyone that can help me please, i am sending them tomorrow.

Sarah can give you some tips on this. She packs them well ;D
There is also a thread on it somewhere too, I'm sure someone can post it for you.

yours were a one off actually Sian, lol, it was a cool case ;D
Usually i put them into a plastic pot packed with moss and some lettuce for the journey (the pot must have holes or the snail may suffocate) then the pot goes into a Cardboard box with polysteirene bits and bubble wrap to keep it in place and for insulation against the cold, then the box is taped up or wrapped in brown paper! thats about it i think :-)

Yay mine were special ;D lol
Some people use jiffy bags and they work fine as well.

Im using a plastic container parted into four sections will this be ok? i have sectioned it using cardboard and lots of moss and will be putting a little food into each section for them, then that plastic container is sealed with air holes then placed into a box, then that box is placed into a bigger one and packed with bubble wrap or something then that box is sealed, if not i will get the plastic pots that you mentioned but not sure to be honest what you mean thanks for your help

jiffy bags are ok for babies as you can pop them into a film case (again with holes) and seal 'em in the bag, cheap too ;D

The carboard sections might go soggy, is it really really thick/strong?
Apart from that it sounds fine to me.

I'm sure they'll be fine Most people send them next day delivery to make sure they don't spend too long in the post, but there are ones that have been sent first class and still got there the next day or 2 days after.

I would avoid jiffy bags to be honest. I'd have them in something like moss in a tub, then with padding/polystyrene around in a solid cardboard box.
Even with special delivery, jiffy bags get squished very easily and even though the snails will be in a tub in one, it's better to have the tub in a box with an extra layer of padding.
Logan and Stella came in a plastic tub, well packed in moss and then in a jiffy bag, and they were badly damaged - through no fault of the person who packed them - purely by the rough handling of the postal service. Same happened with Lois.

Sorry just to add, both were marked as "fragile" too, and that was ignored by the postal service too.

It's usually best not to have 'fragile' written on the side as there are some stupid people out there that take advantage of this and decide it may be fun to try and damage the goods.

Someone sent my snails saying "live entomological supplies" on it - might be a better idea? The PO might then assume it's for scientific work, and be extra careful with it

Oops, thanks Kathy you just reminded me of something! Elvira came in a jiffy bag and her tub was broken. She was fine but the tub had been broken and I'm sure Arno wouldn't have sent her in a broken tub to start with.... *Glares if he did* Rofl. However, I have had others come in jiffy bags and they've been fine. I think if the tub is strong enough it can be ok, but if you want to be totally safe use a good strong box. They're actually cheaper than jiffy bags if like me you just happen to keep boxes from things for some random reason rofl. When Izrina was sent they put Live Insects or something in big letters on the side, I'm pretty sure it freaked the postman out! rofl ;D
