Hello, I’m very new to keeping snails, we have two Achatina fulica that were given to us at about 4wks old just before Xmas, so they’re roughly 7-8m old I think? It’s been a lovely journey with them, they were originally for our two kids to have a trial pets (low maintenance, no allergens for me etc) and to be honest it’s really just me and my daughter that have maintained interest and care for them together. To be fair, she’s 7 and her little brother is 4 with a very short attention span so I can’t really blame him! We’ve enjoyed watching them, caring for them, DD speculating as to why snail 1 is crawling over snail 2 🤦🏼♀️ Then all of a sudden, one of them is carrying what I can only assume are eggs, visible in the opening by the shell (sorry not great with all the terminology yet!!).
I’d cleaned the tank and we’d handled the snails on Sunday and didn’t see anything so how do I work out timings? We go away on Sunday for a week and a friend is looking after them! She’s actually got her own and quite capable but we hadn’t planned on keeping any babies (although my daughter would have us keep ALL of them!). Sorry for the rambling, start of the summer holidays and I’m already delirious! Any advice much appreciated!!

Once eggs are laid, you will want to take them out of the tank, put them in a sandwich bag and then put them in the freezer for a few days. It's not a happy thing to have to do, but it's better than them hatching but having no homes to go to!
