Hey everyone. I just recently had a scare with my snail Chubbs. He was 3/4 retracted in his shell, hadn’t eaten for 3 days, and wouldn’t respond to stimuli. I stayed up till about 3 am trying to coax him out of his shell. I’m sharing this in case anyone comes across this issue with their snails. I had a hard time and reached out to several people because there isn’t much research on it. The following worked for Chubbs. I ran him under luke warm water for 10 seconds at a time, for a couple minutes with breaks in between. Then I sat there and rubbed his shell. Repeat. As soon as I saw movement I set him next to food because he was not strong enough to hold himself up let alone move. He came out but wouldn’t eat. I kept him almost on top of the food, and encouraged eating. I had him eating a snail mix. Eventually he ate a few bites. He’s still very small, but he’s moving around and eating voluntarily. It was honestly a miracle. It took a lot of patience. Many people I talked to said I had little to no luck with him surviving in his condition, especially since he wouldn’t eat. Persistence is key. Get them to eat. I almost lost him because I thought he was “hibernating”.
