They produce lots of mucus sometimes when they feel threatened, I suppose if a bird grabs hold of them, the mucus puts them off. Do it slow and deliberate to minimise it and they'll be less frightened the more you handle them.

what kind of snail is it? Helix aspersa produce lots of bubbles when scared. I've never seen a GALS do it though.

Freddie does it 'cause he's a grumpy so and so He's the only one of mine that does it though lol, all the rest don't care about me picking them up.

you just have to handle them more often so thye get used to it, also don't force them off the side i.e pull them off, you have to be gentle
