The cold seasons are coming. Currently I am not aloud to bring my helix aspersas inside, and soon it’s gonna be time for them to go into their deep sleep. It’s been freezing during the nights and they have stoped laying eggs and have been eating less and are much less active. Yesterday I put them all in a temporary holding container and took the decor out of the main tank. After doing this I filed the enclosure up about 1/3 the way up with soil (it was already about 1/8 the way full) and stirred it up (I wanted them to have plenty of substrate to burrow in). I took a turned over pot and buried it most of the way but left a little opening so they can crawl in and it gets more open the further in the go to make a cosey little underground hide. After doing this I put a thick lair of leaf litter and debris down and stirred up the top lair. After doing all this it was nearly half full. I put in some food and a little water dish and then returned the snails to the tank. I haven’t seen any of the adults, I think they all buried themselves and went to sleep, 1 juvenile was out and about munching on the zucchini after it warmed up in the afternoon, but I think the rest have gone into deep sleep for the cold weather.
My main concern is the one baby, he’s probably less then 2 months old (I think he was born late August). He’s very small and I’m concerned about him, will he survive the winter if I can’t bring him inside?
