I have no idea what caused this to happen, but is this what you'd call a "mantle tear"? I never grabbed him by the shell to detach him from surfaces... I also noticed that when he roams around, that white foamy part is almost completely inside the shell, but it's when he rests or close to that period that it comes out like that so I wonder how's he supposed to heal? Could this have been caused by me foolishly giving him a bath? I submerged him in a small bowl of water because he had some dry crap stuck at the back...and then I saw a bubble come out, so I suppose that tissue was penetrated under water pressure? When I poke him a bit he goes in and then he comes out with some farting-like noise, releasing water I think...but he does that like 4 times in a row in quick succession, in and out, each time with that noise...does this mean that he still has water trapped in his shell or some sort of defensive mechanism?

The bubbling noise just means he’s irritated with you. If you poke a snail or dip them in water and they don’t like it they will often bubble at you just to let you know that it’s bothering them. From the pics he looks pretty healthy. If he is active and eating and stuff I wouldn’t worry about him. Just try not to do things that make them bubble cause it usually means they are uncomfortable with whatever you are doing.

Looks like a slightly puffy/swollen mantle but no tear. The "white foamy part" is part of the mantle.

Thank you for your answers. His mantle is still swollen as of now but what's bothering me is that he's been eating less(and only carrot) since I've noticed the mantle problem. I think he's been eating about half of what he used to eat the weeks prior to his mantle sticking out. He's very active same as he's been since I got him but just eating a lot less, is this normal? I expected him to eat more not less as he got bigger.

How long have you had him?

I've had him since 10th of january, and his mantle got swollen on 25 feb I think. Ever since then he's been eating half the amount of food judging by the amount of crap he puts out.

Do you feed him calcium? His shell looks a little small for his body in my opinion, but I may be wrong. It could just be puffiness like morningcoffee said.

He's eating cuttlebone almost every day and egg yolk once a week, he's eating better now, mostly lettuce, carrot and tomato, but for some reason he dislikes stuff he liked before like arugula, tatsoi and some other stuff...sadly it's the stuff that's by far the most nutritious he doesn't touch anymore. If his body seems too big relative to his shell in those pics then maybe he was in fact overeating, the thought did cross my mind because to me he looked like he's fat. Somehow he decided to go on a diet I guess

You could try some sweet potato (cooked). They usually like that and it’s very nutritious. I’ve had some picky snails and they always seem to love pear and carrot. You could try a little pear.

No, this a normal appearance for a juvenile Cantareus apertus / Green garden snail. This species can look a bit "fat" like they won't fit into their shell when younger.
