i’m so confused. it’s been a week and my snail doesn’t move over night. he only moves when i hold him. he gets a good nutritional diet and his tank is humid and big. he seems overall healthy but he doesn’t move around, therefor he’s not eating. help!

What species is it? It could be the food. If not, then try waking him up and placing him on the food periodically through the evening (preferably past sundown. Snails are nocturnal.)
He could be waking up late at night to eat, then going back to the place he slept. Mine have favourite spots.

Mine have favourite spots. i don’t think he’s just sleeping in a favorite spot, as normally i pick him up to check up on him and when i wake up he’s in the exact same spot. he is a predatory species but i’m not sure the name. i am working on changing his diet as i had no idea but it’s really stressing me out as everything is closed and we are self quarantining and i don’t know what bugs to find outside. my mom won’t let me order bugs online. i’m thinking of releasing him and finding a new snail which seems horrible but he will be happier outside where he is able to get the right diet for him.

but he’s my only snail, so that would be really upsetting, but i can’t be selfish. there aren’t snails commonly found outside where i live and i’m not sure if i feel comfortable ordering them online, but i might. it seems ok, as they hibernate.

Usually snails won’t eat bugs. That’s understandable for your situation. If you have any raw meat in your home (BESIDES CHICKEN) you could give him a little sliver. I’ve heard of people’s carnivorous snails enjoying that quite a bit. Hopefully this will be over soon. I hope you’re doing okay! Don’t feel rotten, it isn’t your fault. I’ve been in a similar situation many times before. Releasing him doesn’t seem horrible at all! A lot of people have had to do that; what’s important is the health of yourself and the snail. I’ll see if I can find what other species live in your state. What state do you live in, assuming you’re american?

This link MAY help, but sadly it is a very large and vague region. It includes species living around the entire pacific northwest, which does include washington state, but it’s hard to know which species you could even find in your area. www.bily.com/pnwsc/web-content/Land%20Snails.htmlI’ll continue on my search for resources for you. edit;) There IS a book published, listing over 240 species native to the Pacific Northwest, BUT.. It costs $35.00. Some parents may be unwilling to buy things like that, but I wanted to show you in case you’re interested! osupress.oregonstate.edu/book/land-snails-and-slugs-of-pacific-northwest

I found a link that lists land snails of the “columbia basin” which, looking it up, is a general area that covers most of Washington.. would that be helpful? The only resources I can find around Washington are very vague / incredibly large areas.
Nevermind, the college it was from deleted it. I’m going to email them and ask if they have the PDF archived.

should i feed this similar to a fish flake, once a week? or more often? Liguus is more knowledgeable than I am about this, but I would say every other day? Maybe some with every meal since it prefers meat..? I’m very unsure. The only meat-eating snail I’ve had preferred live plants..

I’ll find it sometime.
