Hi everyone, I hope nerite snail questions are okay- I have one living in my tank with a betta and a mystery snail. The betta and the mystery snail have been doing great, but the nerite has suddenly gone from active and happy to unmoving. In addition, he keeps flipping upside down and isn't moving. I figured he must have passed, but when I pulled him out of the tank he wriggled in his shell. I put him back in right side up and placed him on top of one of the pieces of blanched carrot that I had given to my mystery snail so he could eat, but I came back later and he had toppled the whole thing over onto himself and stopped moving again. Rinse and repeat. Help! Is he okay? Is he dead? He doesn't smell and moves when I pick him up. I don't want him to die if there's something I can do to help the little guy.

What is the tank size? What are the water perimeters? What is the temperature?
If he moves, then he is alive. When you see him flipped, turn him back right side up, but don’t mess with him to much, it only stresses him out.

Tank is a 5 gallon. A few live plants and plenty of decor for hiding and a mix of gravel and small stones for the substrate. I feed the snails blanched vegetables and the occasional algae wafer broken in half. Tank holds a betta, mystery snail, and the nerite. Water is heated around 78-80 and there is a filter running at all times. Ph, nitrates, ammonia etc is all at good levels. 25% water change weekly with deeper cleaning monthly.

Do you have specific numbers for the ph, ammonia, nitrite and nitrate? How long has the tank been setup?
How long have you had him? Do you know how old he is?
What do you feed him?
Sorry for all the questions, just trying to figure out if there is any reason he might be acting weird.
If he gets any types of pre formulated foods (like pellets, flakes or wafers) then you might want to double check the ingredients list and make sure they don’t have copper (or at least make sure it’s the last ingredient if they do). Copper is toxic to snails and can make them act weird.

Didn't write down the results when I tested the water but they were in the ideal range for betta fish and snails.. ph is about 7.5. Nitrite and ammonia were 0 and nitrate was very low... I've had him for a couple weeks, got him after the tank was already established with the betta. No idea how old he is. I give the snails blanched veg (switched out every couple days) and algae wafers once a week or so. The problem started before I started feeding the algae wafers. Maybe he's just old, idk.

Hmm, sounds like the tank is good and his diet is good. I’m puzzled to. I’ve had this happen before with my snails, but I’m not really sure why it happens.
