Ive read different things about softening vs not softening food for snails. Some say things like carrots need to be softened so they're easier to eat. Some say it doesn't matter because they can eat regular carrot just fine. Is there any food that should be softened before giving it to them?

It's not necessary at all and generally raw veg is more nutritious. You can cook food slightly to soften it before giving it to them for variety sometimes if you want to, but it should be as part of a balanced diet that's mostly made up of raw food.

I give my snails finely grated carrots. They eat more of it than when I just put pieces of carrots on their dish. They seem to enjoy it more, too. But I never cook anything or grate any other food.

yes they like carrot peelings, but they also will eat the big pieces, mines sometimes leave the central part that is a bit harder and lighter colour! but they are used to raw food obviously

I’ve always just blanched veggies a little before I feed. It’s easier for them to eat. It doesn’t matter a whole lot as long as they can chew the raw stuff though.
