I have 5 theba pisana snails, and i got them like two days ago. Right now they are in a temporary container with no substrate, i mist it twice a day and leave food for them and things to climb. I recently got a new bigger container for them to live in, but i need help picking a substrate. I have potting mix and i did research on it, it has no insecticides, no herbicides, no fertilizer, no plant food, no bark, and no mulch. But it also isn't organic. I was thinking i would take the soil i needed from the bag and bake it in the oven at 200 degrees celsius for a couple minutes, then wash it and strain it. I this the right thing to do?? please reply! The soil is called Miracle-Gro Moisture control potting mix.

Miracle Gro Moisture Control Potting Mix contains wetting agents and almost certainly fertilisers, I would not use it for snails. Coir (coco fibre) is a very good substrate for most land snails and is what I would recommend rather than something intended for plants. You can buy it in brick form (add water to make it into loose substrate) online or from pet shops that have reptile supplies, some common brands are Pro Rep Coco Brick, Zoo Med Eco Earth, Exo Terra Plantation Soil, or Komodo Tropical Terrain.
