I had a snail that randomly got swollen mouth - their "tooth" was sticking out of their face no matter how small they made their head, and the bottom lips were very swollen. I found a lot online saying this was the prelude to a gut extrusion/prolapse and there was nothing to do but euthanize. I last minute decided to try something else: shaving off small amounts of ibuprofen from a tablet and dabbing it onto their mouth, while pushing the mouth gently into the head.
My snail is still a little weak and sickly, and it's likely they have an illness that simply caused the swollen mouth as a symptom. But for the past two days there has been no sign of swelling and they have been able to eat normally!
Definitely be careful not to use too much if you do this. My snail got kind of woozy after a few dabs and went to bed. I imagine they could overdose quickly so use very very small amounts. It's possible that swollen mouth is not always connected to a prolapse - it could sometimes be inflammation that can be treated with something like ibuprofen.

That's very interesting! I've never heard of anyone trying this before, but I'm glad your snail seems to be reacting well to it.

I had been fighting against a swollen mouth (due to inflamation and maybe infection, after the prolapse of the oviduct) for 3 months now.
Until 2 days ago when my beloved baby died in the end... I've been trying everything, and stayed awake all nights for 3 months entirely to feed her (with a syringe, used like a baby bottle that she learned how to drink from with my help), and went to the vet dozens of time, tried with flagyl+antibiotics in the worse moment, then gave her liquid calcium, liquid vitamins, and in the end in my opinion I was beaten by the stupid warm summer weather... I wish so much your post arrived one or two months ago!!! So I would have tried ibuprofen too... My situation was different as she had a lot of problems in these three months...
But there is one thing I would like to say to all snail owners:
according what you can read online, the only solution for many snails problem is always to euthanize... Pls guys don't do it so easily, there are examples of stories of snails surviving almost everything in practice.. So pls always try your best!!! They are full of resources, and if you try hard in many cases you can save them!
Apart from this, thanks for your post, and best luck with your snail and all my deepest wishes from the deep of my heart!
