Hey guys! Recently I found slugs in my dying plant and was ecstatic! They're so adorable! I let them keep the plant and kept it wet by misting them with a spray bottle, and I've been feeding them lettuce and carrots (I also supplement with tortoise grass pellets and tortoise fruity things). After a few weeks, some of them got BIG and yesterday the big ones started trying really hard to escape.
Flash to today, I grabbed a fish tank I wasn't using and stopped by Home Depot to get some plexiglass for a lid. I cut it to shape and put air holes in it that are small enough that the slugs can't escape.
*** Help with what? Well, I have a few questions! What kind of slugs are my babies? Should I be feeding them anything else? Do I need more air holes in my tank? ***
I'll attach pics below.

They look like gray field slugs! I have the same As for the air holes, they look great! I personally have 23 about that small on a way larger tank- pic here! i.ibb.co/ph8vm98/3-E458-F2-B-2176-47-BE-817-E-189445450-CA0.jpg (and, by no means feel pressured to get them a tank that big. I just felt kinda bad for them, and also plan on getting some far larger snails!) I think you’re doing great taking care of them. I personally try to offer the greenest lettuce I can find as it has the most nutrients- the outer “guard leaves” of a head of lettuce are usually perfect after a quick wash! I also recommend boiling the carrots if you notice them not eating them. You should notice some lines in it, around the size of your slug’s heads, but some smaller snails and slugs like these guys can have trouble with hard foods like that. I also recommend soaking the pellets in water to make it easier for them to eat! As you’ve probably noticed, snails and slugs don’t really have teeth- they more just lick at things with a rough tongue like that of a cat, so pellets and hard foods can be a slight struggle. This is affectionately dubbed “rasping” by many people on here. If you have them around, offering boiled sweet potatoes is pretty good for them too. I wouldn’t necessarily go out and buy them specifically as they do fine with pellets and veggies, but a lot of people on here suggest them. Just a thought! Good luck on your slug keeping, and sorry it took so long for anyone to check out the post!
