My friends snail laid a clutch a few weeks ago, and one of the snails is a unicorn snail! It only has one eye stalk (two eye dots) and I’m so amazed, I’ve never seen anything like this before! Even more amazing- it laid another clutch and the new clutch has not one, but two more unicorn snails!! Here’s a picture (I have more if anyone wants to see!) Has anyone else seen this before?!

Do those pupils move somehow? I don't suppose a lot of movement can be seen in such a small eye, but if there is any visible movement, does it look synchronised or do those pupils move independently, as if the snail had two eye stalks?

That's so strange, it must be a genetic mutation. Very very cute!

That's cool. Eye stalk mutations happen now and then, sometimes they're also born with extra eye stalks. I've never had one occur in my own snails though.

I’ve heard of extra eyestalks before but never one! And I’ve never seen it either... raised over 1,000 snails and have seen hundreds more and never INS seen anything like that. Then my friends first snail lays it’s first clutch and she gets a unicorn!

I wonder if this can cause other health issues down the line, or a shorter lifespan, like how most animals with mutations don't live very long.

The one in the picture is now an adult and doing well, and I’m actually raising two of her sisters who are also unicorns! They are very big, healthy and active snails!
