Hi everyone! I’m a new snail mom but I’ve done a lot of research and am pretty sure I have Oxychilus draparnaudi snails. (Please tell me otherwise!) Anyways, I started by rescuing one with a broken shell and then found a few more. I was wondering the best way to help my Rocky repair his shell.. The very center (apex?) is caved in. I’ve seen posts saying to leave them alone and it will heal, to clean and fix the hole with plaster of Paris and clear nail polish (wouldn’t that be harmful?!) and finally to isolate the snail. Should I worry about infection; if so what do I look for? What are my options? And what’s the best way for him to heal and be happy? photos.app.goo.gl/PiiEcgKcEnue9zkq8photos.app.goo.gl/6eA9i7Tr4yv9iem99

I’m certainly no expert, but I think you should isolate him. Give him a nice cuttlebone to munch on, too, and he’ll probably binge to help fix his shell. If the piece isn’t loose, you should probably leave it in to help him heal better and prevent infections and the like. On that note, I’m pretty sure the only way to really prevent infection is to just make sure the tank is very clean! I hope your little snail friend gets better

Hii! I have an Oxychilus draparnaudi snail too! She also happens to have a broken shell! I put her in her own separate container with a piece of cuttlebone. I just make sure no substrate goes inside her shell and you need to keep it clean while it heals. Make sure she won't dry out! They might not eat while they are injured. After a while, you will slowly see some film developing and it should slowly heal. I got most of this information from: www.petsnails.co.uk/problems/rescuing.html#:~:text=I%20usually%20spray%20the%20snail,by%20using%20a%20spray%20bottle. (Just copy the entire link cuz some reason part of it is not working.)
