Hi! This is kinda a long story but here it is. I have 2 mystery snails, squigy and cheetoh, I think I saw they mating! When should I expect eggs? Any advice on keeping the eggs (if I get any) is helpful! Also, before I got cheetoh I had another snail named Hermy in the tank. Hermy and squigy were friends. Then about a week ago Hermy got in a little hole near the filter, I didn’t know was there, and because he was so small he got sucked in and passed away . So I got cheetoh. Thought I would share that story lol.

A simple fix for the filter problem is just to cover the intake area with some fine mesh (panty hoes work great), that is what I do on all my snail tanks.
Mystery snails lay a clutch of eggs above the waterline. If the eggs get to wet before they hatch, the babies will drown, so keep the eggs moist but don’t soak them. If you want eggs, you’ll need to leave the water level low so the snails have a place to lay their eggs. If you want, after the eggs are laid you can move them to an incubator. There are plenty of YouTube videos on how to make those.
mystery snails can lay anywhere from 50-275 snail eggs, so only hatch snails if you are setup for it! I usually recommend having at least a 40 gallon for your babies to go into. Once they are old enough to transport, you can start rehoming some of them, but you will still need a lot of space to house so many young snails before that time.
There is a chance you might never have eggs though. I’ve had snails that mated every other day and never gave me any eggs their whole life.

Ok thanks. I need to take some water out and she might lay eggs I really don’t know yet. If she does lay eggs I’ll have to figure out what to do with them when they hatch, because I don’t have enough money to buy that big of tank . I’m only 14. (And I am raising frogs so my money is going to that right now) lol thanks anyways.

Been there, haha (teen with no money trying to afford all my pets).
Price wise, you can buy Rubbermaid or sterilite totes at Walmart then order some sponge filters and a cheap air pump. Fill the totes with dechlorinated water and throw in a heater and some bacterial supplementation (i.e. gravel or filter media from a mature tank or some tetra safe start or something) into each and that should work.
Space however, is another matter. This method is really cheap, but it will take up a ton of space.

They laid eggs!! I’m so excited. I woke up this morning and saw them! Some have already hatched so I won’t be able to find those ones until later.

Ok so, I made an incubator but I can’t move the eggs or they will break. So I’m just going to leave them in the tank and hope all goes well.

Cool! Do you have pictures of them? What color variations are the parents?

The parents are brown and yellow. I’m really scared that I’m doing something wrong. I already broke 3 eggs on the bitten of the clutch trying to move them. I’ll try and send a photo. My moms friend is letting me look at her aquarium and if I can use it she said I can have it. I may use that for the parents because I saw them mate again! (And I’m worried about them eating the babies.) Thanks for the help.

Cool. The snail eggs should develop in about 3wks I think. Fertile eggs will slowly get darker and darker until they hatch. When they do hatch, just feed them really soft, over boiled veggies. The babies won’t be picky.
It’s fine if you want to leave the eggs on the side of the tank, they will still develop. The incubator is more for if you want to do waterchanges and such and not worry about bumping them or getting them wet.

Should I leave the parents in with the babies that have already hatched?

It doesn’t matter. The parents and babies should be fine together.

Hi, so the eggs are doing great. They actually have just laid more. I thought my friend was giving me a 10 gallon tank but it’s actually like 30 gallons so once I fix that tank up they are going in there. I want to remove the eggs but I don’t want to break them, what’s the best way to move them?

You could try getting a really thin piece of plastic or something and gently scraping them off, other then that I don’t know. You might want to just wait till they hatch before you move them to the bigger tank. I imagine the bigger tank still needs to cycle unless you have pre-cycled media to put in there.

Ok. I’m just going to try and wait until they hatch. I’m still setting up the new tank, which does need to cycle.

Hi! So, I got my new tank set up and the parents are in there. That isn’t what I’m concerned about though. When I saw the eggs there were these little things all over the tank that I for some reason thought were baby snails. Well, they haven’t grown any and just continue just moving around the tank. What are these? Its been 2 weeks since I noticed them. youtube.com/shorts/dwMfQrERNf4 Sorry to bother you, again.

It’s hard to tell from the blurry video. Do they look like snails or are they more like some kind of aquatic bug?
If they are snails, but not growing and don’t look like mystery snails, then they could just be some baby pest snails. Those tiny clear egg sacks can often hitchhike rides in on plants.
Another possibility would be water fleas or something, but you would notice those zipping around and not just slowly crawling along stuck to the glass.

ok. I couldn't really get a clear video since they are so small. I assume they are some type of aquarium pest, I was just going to see if you knew exactly what was lol. thanks.

Hi! So my original mystery snail eggs got too dry and never hatched. I like I said I moved the female into a new big tank along with the male. He soon passed away and I got two more mystery snails. My female is chestnut colored, my other two are ivory and a dark purply brown color. I know at least one is a male because he mated with my female and she laid about 10 egg clutches. All the eggs on the other end of the tank never hatch, the ones by the filter do! I now have a ton of baby mystery snails, and more to come. I don't exactly know all the babies colorings yet, but they appear to all be brownish.
Just thought I would share the news! I hope you are doing well!
