hello! i am new to posting on this forum, and fairly new to keeping snails properly. i keep garden snails of different species. i noticed sometimes there is a wire-looking substance that seems to stem from the genitals on the side of my snail's face, and wondered what it is/if it's normal. here is an image of it: imgur.com/z1tcP3ti'm also wondering if it's normal for a snail's genitals to be sticking out so much, pretty much constantly? and if not, is there something i am doing wrong? thank you

Hello! If you have other snails in with him, he could have just been mating with them, and that why it looks like that. Or, could have just matured. It could be something bad, but only time will tell. Either way, he should be ok, just keep a close eye on him and let us know what happens. Just in case there is something wrong, check in often. I hope that helped out some! Let me know if you have any further questions!

Hi protectedtower, the "wire-looking substance" is the spermatophore (some kind of "container" for the sperm cells). It's not a genital organ itself, but a product of the male genital system. Nothing to worry about. Sometimes it misses its target and remains recognizable for a few days. It is best to do nothing at all (do not pull, you might injure internal organs). Kind regards: wolf
