I’ve noticed that my little guy’s shell seems to be a little bit more loose than it used to be. He’s active and acting as he normally always does but it seems like he’ll stretch out a lot as he’s moving and then when it looks like he’s about to stretch right out of his shell, then he’ll pull it along and onto the middle of his back again. I’m not sure if that’s normal or not? I’ve told my mom before that she had to be gentle when handling him but she did admit that she had to “pull him off” when he was really hanging onto her hand, could that have been the reason? Is there anything I can do to help him strengthen his muscles to keep his shell on better? He has a cuttlefish bone in his tank that he nibbles at frequently btw.

Hello! Snails are very strong! Your snail can likely carry two times his weight, or more. I know it looks concerning when their shells hang like that, but I assure you nothing is wrong with your snail! When your snail is climbing and their shell moves up their back like that, you are just watching them pull their shell up and along with them as they climb. As long as you don't ever pull your snail by its shell, they shouldn't have any health problems like that. i can defiantly understand where your coming form though, it looks unnatural, and painful to us, but their shell hanging like that, or looking stretched out, doesn't affect them at all. Let me know if you have any further questions!
