I recently got a new rescued reticulata land snail. He's other wise in good condition alert and eating. But he's got some clear shell damage. It's got a large dip and thick lines of bad growth. Despite three months of calcium supplements and cuttlefish bones he's still rasping on his shell.
Is there anything I can do to help the new growth and improve the shell condition?

Hi there! petsnails.proboards.com/thread/5529/posting-picturesI’m so happy you rescued a snail! That is so cool! If you have been giving him calcium, and the shell has healed, and it’s just deformed, that’s perfectly fine! Once they injure their shells, they usually won’t look normal again. There really isn’t much you can do about a deformed shell, but that’s ok. If their is a lot of improper growth though, and you think he’s not eating the calcium. I would say it’s ok to supplement his food with calcium momentarily, that should help him get the calcium he needs. If you do think that’s the case, and decide to do it, only do it for a short time, until you see improvement in his growth. It is said to be fatal to continue adding calcium to their food. You can then spread cuttlebone throughout the tank, so he is able to find it, and figure out that cuttlebone = calcium. Let me know what you think of all that, etc! Here are some links that may be able to help you. Also, rasping on the shell can be an indicator of lack of calcium, which I’m sure you know, or it can be an indicator of other things. www.petsnails.co.uk/problems/not-eating-calcium.html#startwww.petsnails.co.uk/problems/slow-growth.html#startwww.petsnails.co.uk/problems/not-eating-calcium.html#startwww.petsnails.co.uk/problems/rasping-shell.html#startwww.petsnails.co.uk/problems/bad-shell-growth.html#startLet me know if you have any other questions!
