Hello, so I was here on this forum just over 2 weeks ago enquiring about a snail of mine losing weight and not eating as much. here is that post: petsnails.proboards.com/thread/18709/snail-losing-weight-sick-help My snail had signs of getting better, but in the past 3 days he has once again fallen ill. I started to see orange like goo stuff coming out of his breathing hole while he was in his shell. I gave him a spray and make sure he has been eating. I yet again found some today, but this time, it seems after the orange-ness, is unformed eggs? If you read my previous post, he was having trouble laying eggs before. It was the start of him being sick -- I am wondering if he still has eggs that need to come out, and the orange visible could be blood because he is struggling? I will attach pictures below. Orangey stuff appeared at his breathing hole while in his shell: imgur.com/a/mxrhVgZHow it appeared when I carefully took it away: imgur.com/a/QB4o0vbPLEASE help, give advice, insight, anything. Is my theory plausible? Is this goo stuff something else? Please help. UPDATE: I have found a thread on what seems to be similar to what is happening with my snail: petsnails.proboards.com/thread/18068/white-stuff-hanging-genital-poreApparently, it is Oviduct Prolapse. Most on that thread tell me to wait, but if anyone has ANY tips, please tell me.

Hello! I looked back at your post since it has been a while. This hole you are talking about is their pneumostome, it is where they breathe/poop. Isn't that fascinating! I have always found it very fascinating. Their fecal matter often is the color of what they previously ate, so your snail may have just eaten carrots, or cuttle bone, etc. What you are seeing may be feces, or it could not be. It is really hard to tell honestly, but it doesn't appear to concerning, probably just feces. So, I wouldn't be too worried, just be on the lookout for anything overly strange. Let me know if you have any other questions or concerns!

It had the texture of goo, and seems like there are several unformed eggs there. He has not been coming out his shell like usual, he has lost weight, and he doesn't eat as much, and this all started when he laid eggs for the first time, so I think it has something to do with that. Do you think that is possible?

Hmmm.. well, if it does happen to be a prolapse, there isn’t a whole lot you can do. I would give it some time and see how things turn out. Since oviduct prolapse is quite rare, I do not know of anything that might help. I will keep looking, and see what I can find though. Just keep them comfortable with some food, possibly try and get them to eat.

So, I have done some mild searching, and there is little to no information about oviduct prolapses in snails, which I’m sure you have found out. The best thing you can do right now, is place your snail in a smaller container, give it some food and cuttlebone, and keep a VERY close eye on them. Be on the look for any other suspicious behavior, etc. Since it is very hard to say if they are having a prolapse or not, I wouldn’t take any drastic measures yet, ok. (Sorry I am in class and was able to look some stuff up while I was waiting, I’ll do some more research later today )

Hi protectedtower, I have no idea what the goopy stuff is- maybe something to do with the egg-laying like you said, or some unusually chunky slime. I would, like snaileyhammy said, just closely monitor them and if anything else comes out. Regarding the prolapse- it looks more like a genital prolapse to me? Its definitely worth a try to help them, though. One thing I can suggest is a very dilute (and room temperature) chamomile tea bath. Oh, and definitely don't touch the prolapse or anything. Other than that, there's honestly not much you can do. Genitals are not an essential organ if it is indeed a prolapse of such and even if it were to fall off or just stay prolapsed like it is right now, though not ideal, the snail can live just fine.
Good luck!!

Genitals are not an essential organ if it is indeed a prolapse of such and even if it were to fall off or just stay prolapsed like it is right now, though not ideal, the snail can live just fine. Good luck!! Thank you to both of you. The stuff is most definitely coming out of his genital pore and it seems to come out in little chunks, in the shape of eggs but they are not formed correctly? Every time I give him a spray and he wakes up a couple more seems to be there, either coming out or had come out and he is "holding" them with his foot, then he walks around fine and such. So I am unsure if it is a prolapse, because wouldn't that just be one long organ? I am monitoring him closely, giving him a little warm pat on his shell w a soft sponge (he likes it and he seems to come out when i do this too) Could I ask, what does chamomile tea bath do for the snail? I am just curious before I try I am glad to hear my snail can live without it, though. I am taking best care I can. I even brought him on vacation with me to monitor him lol. I will keep updated
