hello! ive been interested in snails and slugs for a bit, but only recently have i decided i want one as a pet. ive done some research on it but i hope you all can provide me with some other tips and helpful information i may be missing. i am in no way trying to have this be a huge thing, im mainly just planning on taking the first garden slug/snail i see. nothing too expensive. i will end up getting a small terrarium in the future and sphagnum moss, since my sibling uses some for their reptiles. until i can get those ill use a large plastic bin or a big jar for the enclosure, with potting soil, leaves and bark. ive heard that slugs die during mating so i shouldnt keep more than one at a time, is it the same with snails?

That sounds great!! Snails/slugs are super easy to care for so I doubt you’ll have an issue. Go snail/slug hunting as much as possible, until you find a friend! Or attempt to attract them to your yard. You can then take something like a large mayonnaise jar, and use that as a tank for them. (depending on the snail/slugs size)
Then, I would recommend giving them the usual, dirt (any kind you like, as long as there are no harsh additives), sticks, leaves, and places to hide! Spray them once a day, and make small holes for ventilation in the lid. Sometimes when I make small or large tanks like that, I cut a nice square or hole out of the lid and glue on a piece of fiberglass mesh, and seal it on with mod podge. It can help if you want to give them a small light source as well!
That, from my perspective, is the easiest way to care for a snail or slug! Simple, and manageable! You can go more compact with different tank styles if you’d like, but this is ground level ig.
I hope that information helps! Do let me know if you have any other questions, I’m always free to answer them. I am in no way an expert, I’m always learning tbh, but I’ve had years of experience and I’m willing to research, and do whatever is necessary, with you. If that helps any <3
