Hey! First of all this is my first time ever using this website so i hope it goes well. Anyways, i have been experiencing some weird problems with my snails. Its only occurred to around 4 of them, but ive had all my snails for over a year and theres never been any issues before now. It all started with one of my snails, whom when i looked closer at it, he appeared to be turned around in his shell. His head couldnt be seen and all that was hanging out was his tail end. He stayed that way for a long time. And when he would come out it seemed as though he couldnt come out all the way. He was producing yellow slime. He lived (in a quarantine tank) for several weeks, but did eventually pass. And ever since that happened, a few more of my snails have passed. They didnt seem twisted in their shells, they just stopped coming out of their shells and would often just sit in one place until they died. I feed them a variety of vegetables, and they get a dish of calcium powder that i mix with water to create a paste. I use coconut coir as the substrate. Right now i have two tanks, each with about 10-15 snails. Would love some opinions.

Hello, to me the symptoms you are describing look like some kind of food poisoning! I do not know what snails you have but "yellow slime" and "turned around in his shell" is a typical reaction. What did you feed to your snails and where did you get it? Maybe the food itself was perfectly OK but for some reason it was treated with a substance that was poisonous to snails. Most of us have to buy the food for our snails in supermarkets and such, and this may work Ok for years without problems, but on some day there may be a salad that has been treated with something poisonous.

I normally feed them things like spinach, carrots, lettuce, etc. and i do try to rinse the food as good as i can first. But im really glad that you informed me of that being a common reaction to food poisoning. Going to be really careful selecting produce!! Thank you so so so so much
