Lately, there has been alot of slug talk as you have noticed. I thought, instead of getting it all mixed up with snail business, it would be a good idea to have a slug part of the website. not a whole new forum or anything, just a place [like this one] to put different threads.

This sounds like great idea Reading back through the posts I see that you are after leopard slugs. I will happily send you one or two babies if you assure me that you would only ever release them or their off-spring in an area where they are already established. I ask this as these slugs will readily have a go at other species and I would worry about what they could do to rarer smaller localised species of slug, (I've seen the damage they have inflicted on some of our common garden slugs, even large ones!) The other point is that they are from my garden and do have mites, I think you could rid them of these by washing them a few times and changing the compost often. One last little thing, they can get pretty big I found an 18cm one the night before last, so a large set up would be needed in the future. Saying all this they are a truly spectacular species and slugs need friends! ;D Beth P.S. and you are God!

A slug section would be a great idea, I am just as much enthusiastic about slugs as I am snails, and so are other members Ive noticed, Glad you joined the forum Beth I now have housing ready for the Arion Rufus, but am still trying to get suitable housing for the Leopard's, will keep checking adtrader for tanks

I thought about this, but I have decided against it. Slugs are as valid as snails on here as far as I'm concerned. I just see a slug as a more evolved snail. They have similar care requirements, habits and problems etc. so to create a slug section would mean duplicating sections. So we'd have all the feeding, identification, problems etc for slugs as well as snails. So, I figured it'd be duplication. Let's just treat them as other species or gastropod. In many ways, I kind of wish I'd called my site PetGastropods. Quick check reveals I can get the domain but this forum probably can't be changed

but there is a fraction of messages regarding slugs as snails, and many people here aren't as interested in slugs, so a slug section would benefit the slug-enthusiasts, and would be a place for people who keep slugs to share their expertise
kind regards

and a place to say about the different species and which prefer which settings and stuff. Like you know how the snail pics bit is just a place to put different threads, well we could just have that.

I know what you are saying but I just can't see any advantage to it, only disadvantages. Some people may only be interested in European snails but they a mixed with African ones etc in the sections.
I also think info and research on slugs is valid for snails also and vice-versa. Imagine I created a board called petslugs, there would be all the same sections so what would be th point. And where do the slugs with some shell remaining go?
Sophie, I like the idea on a species board. I may create a section called species info or something. Then we can create a thread for each species. However if I do this I am worried that all the info will get mixed up. So for instance stuff that belongs in behaviour or feeding will end up in the fulica thread etc.
I'm not sure, I'll have a think, but I like the idea in principle, it's a good one.

can you post pics of some of your leopards? it might help persuade my mum i know there are pics of others of these slugs but if she saw one we might actually have....
