i was just wandering if there could be a kind of database where people could say they are available to sit snails in a certain area while people go on holiday or if somebody goes into hospital and is unable to care for their snails for a while. Instead of posting on the forum asking if anyone is available they could check the database for people in their area and contact them privately
just an idea what do you all think?
Eric

thats sounds like a great idea, i certainly wouldnt mind snail sitting for someone. Ive always wondered how many people in my area keep snails, i dont know of any! lol. Although I think keeping snails seems to be becoming more popular

Hi everybody I'm new on the forum. I like the idea of snail sitting - both ways: to snail sit and to have mine sitted. But who lives in Buckinghamshire like me??

Geez, where have I been?! I didn't noticed this one! When me and John finally get our house i'll sign on as a Snail Sitter in Scotland!! How fun! ;D Anyone want to give their snails a Scottish vacation?? Hey, can I get a follow-up on this, has it been made?

I think could be fine to have that database on the petsnails site... something like the owned/wanted lists ^_^

The problem is, there are many people offering to snail sit, but no one is keen on having their snails sat...

Although it is a great idea, there isn't much chance of finding somebody who lives reasonably close and is also somebody you would trust to look after your snails.

i would like my snails sat when i go on holidays perhaps we could have a list of sitters stating how far they would be willing to travel and dates when they were avaiable i would rather trust someone off this ste rather than a friens or neighbour who might not know how to look after or might say they will care for snails but do not do it quite right

Or worst...our worst nightmare...those folks who see them as pests, are afraid of them, or can't stand them suddenly surprise our friends/family/neighbor with complains and put our babies in danger! Or at the least makes life heck for the sitter thus losing our sitter anyway.

LMAO rubb3rchicken!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! You made me laugh Any way... Why doesn't someone create a poll, to see if enough people are near enought to to LOOK AFTER the snails? If trusted ofcause.. With my brill php skills, i could help create a data base >;-} The whole this would have to be based on; Location - What are the chances though? Price - Some people could charge / will / might / don't know Trust - Would you trust someone withy your snailies? Edit; Idea of what the tables could look like![glow=red,2,300]http://www.wowdly.com/snails/sitetable.html[/glow]

Hi Samm Please do the poll/data base as I have been looking for info about people near me for a while and cann't seem to get the info together, mainly because lots of users don't put their location in their member profile (or rather daft ones like "my hometown" and such).
For my holiday arrangements I had to ask a work colleague and give her a quick course of "how to look after GALS" AND give her the "official" book AND the website to petsnails etc. And still wondering if I was returning to dying snails or an exploded population.....
On your poll I'd like a field for own comments, for people to put in whatever info they want to share regarding the snail sitting. And regarding the number of snails able to cope with... well, what if a fulica has just produced some fifty babies or more? So I think that field needs some flexibility as well. And maybe a field with info if people are willing to travel to sit (and how far) or prepared to take "the snailies on holiday" in at their place or both depending on needs.
At the end of the day it will be most likely a transaction between two people which know each other (at least through the forum) quite well. But to aid that a database is surely useful.
So please, do go ahead!

*Alters the table* *Codes a poll* *Add's a comment page for you guys* Ill edit this reply soon This is what we have been discussing as well - we are thinking of people if they are local to you - sitting them, instead of sending, 'cause if u have 24 odd snails - it's going to cost a bomb & half EDIT; I will sort out a design if it all goes good so for now the links follow;
