i think this is a fantastic idea. i just went away for four days and had trouble getting a snail sitter - and i've only got two for looking after.

I've registered. I'm going travelling in early summer, it's only for three weeks but obviously finding someone to care for my collection is a bit challenging. Unfortunately i'm going to have to sell most of them and if i cant find a sitter then maybe all of them.

Ive got hundreds at the moment because of all the babies but, apart from a few, they will all be gone by summer. In my permanent collection I have:
2 Tigers 4 Margies 4 Iredalei (will keep a few babies) 7 Fulica (may keep a few babies) 4 Limicolaria flammea so thats 21 (feels like a lot more!!!)
I also have to find someone to look after my Gecko and worst of all my house rabbits who I do not want to leave behind at all! Unfortunately think i may have to sell up some of my permanents but will hold off until i know anything for definate.

If you could post them I would look after them until you got back another 21+ babies won't make much difference to my lot but if anything happened I wouldn't be held responsible.

Ok thats brilliant to know that I have the option thank you!! I'd hate to have to get rid of all fo them especially as ive kept snails since i was little and most of my fulica are descended from them.

I would be happy to look after snails if someone could do the same for me. At the moment it is difficult because I do not have much space, but hopefully I'll be back in the UK soon, maybe the Isle of Wight.. It would be great if I could find someone not too far away interested in snails then we could help each other out with snail-sitting (a snail-buddy system..?) The petshops are usually willing to do this but it can be expensive. Here in Limoges it costs 18 euros per week (per snail!) That's bloody expensive, especially since Laz will just be in hibernation for the whole week - I just need someone with some snavvy (snail-savy!) to check in on him! It's a shame because I travel a lot. I'd treat myself to a white jade fulica immediately if I could solve this problem.
