Hmmm, I don't know lol. Generally this was a comp. for such art like drawing and painting. However, I can't see why a sculpture of some sort can't be included. I think sculptures could be allowed. Then again, how can we tell that someone did it? Never mind lol, we trust you! Sarah, do you agree with my decision? I'm now thinking about entering my snail wood carving. Oh, and btw. The dates of the SPC (Snail Photography Competition) are being set. So the dates for the SAT (Snail Art Competition, SAT because competition has a "t" in it) will be done soon. The idea is that we didn't want the two comps. to be running at the same time. Sonic

I started a drawing because I didn't think a sculpture would be ok to do, and it had been several days sense I asked. So I might just go ahead and enter the drawing if it comes out ok. I really am better at clay, but it's coming along nicely and I might not have time to do a sculpture anyway because of my sculpture class. Actually, I know what i'll do! Next time we have this competition, i'll do a beautiful snail sculpture. I just hope you aren't the only one with a sculpture entered Sonic. Really sorry

Hey, it doesn't matter. The SAT wont be starting for a long time yet. Firstly, the next SPC is on the 25th of March. That will last for a month, so it will end around the 25th of April. The first SAT will start from April onwards. The object of it all is that the two comps. don't conflict with each other. So spacing the SAT in between the SPC is being organised. So if you wanted to, you may have time to do a clay piece instead? Just out of curiosity, do you have any art work that you can show us?

Awesome! I'll wait and see what happens, I usualy wait until I have an "amazing" idea, and just HAVE to see it created. So i'll see if a particular snail sculpture pops into my head like my drawing did. I do have a little art, not a lot though. I have two lovely sculptures from class, but no pictures of them yet. BUT, sense you are cureious, how about I make a Sculpey snail? Like I said, clay is my best media. And I love working with Sculpey, it's like clay-cartooning. In fact i'll do that, and get a pic taken! Shall post when it's done, shoulden't be more then a day or two at most, im still on Spring break so loads of time. *gets working on it*

Wow, well done! Well, I was going to do a fun cartoony snail, but I decided to try to be realistic...again. Im always pushing this silly Sculpey, it's really not easy to be realistic with. But here's my attempt just now! Im sorry about the quality, it was either this or a flashed out snail! Like this: Will try again tomorow when the sun is out. All he needs is to be baked in the oven and he's a done sculpture.

You just made that?? That's great! What's it made from again? It looks like plasticine... Hmmm, that stuff could come in use for my art... Can you blend the two colours to create a patterned shell or can only one colour be used? Is that a Ferrero Rocher I see?!?!? Yum... I'm hungry now lol.

Awww, thanks so much Sonic! Yea, I can make things out of it easily, as long as they are simple. Im trying to push for more detail though. I actually almost had a shop in High School, brought my clay to school one day to give me something to do when I was bored. People saw my wee animals, and would ask "can you make a ___" so I would, and no matter what I thought, they simply loved them! So I would make a request list, make them and bring them in, and asked like .25 or .50 for them, can't remember. I had an art instructor saying I should charge a few dollars! haha, yes thats a Ferrero Rocher. Ive been without my boyfriend sense February 20th (he visited me for a month) so ive found anything left behind from him visiting me has turned into wee relics to remember him... Including that Ferrero Rocher, so no touch! It was part of his Valentines Day gift to me...actually that was the first time we were together for Valentines Day instead of in different countries. Anyway, yup! I felt inspired, and wipped that little guy right up. I forgot that I have work today *bleah* so I might have to take new pictures tomorow outside in the sun. As for what I used, it's called Sculpey. I believe it's called polyclay, or something like that. It's basicaly a plastic, you bake it in the oven when your done and it turns into a hard little plastic creation. I love this stuff, comes in tons of colours, and there's tons of things you can make. And it's definetly mixable by the way . I tried a spiral in the shell buy adding white and black to the brown, but I mixed too much, and it didn't show up in the picture well anyway.

I really want to try them out, especialy the idea of making erasers And they DO have skin-tone by the way. That alone is pretty sweet ;D

Ok, Thanks! I got that, sculpey, must remember that. I wonder if they will ship to the UK...? Anyway, it sounds a lot easier than wood carving, I'll have to give it a go. With wood carving you spend like days just getting the basic shape, then yet many more hours refining it and smoothing/ sanding the wood. The shell and the body are made from two different pieces of wood. I haven't glued them together, so they could come apart and it would become a slug lol. I'm deciding what to enter when the comp. starts. I have my fulica painting and my snail wood carving. I don't think I will be able to find enough time to do another piece of snail art. I'm currently working on a very large painting, on canvas, of St. Paul’s Cathedral in London. That painting alone is taking a very long time. Thanks again Sonic

I certainly hope it's in the UK! I NEED my sculpey! I will be looking for it, and will let you know where I find it. And if you happen to come across it, be sure to tell me as well. I can't wait to hear how you do with it, it's really a clay, only less messy (though a bit oily, it never dries). I love working with normal clay too by the way, I make some lovely detailed sculptures. ;D Also keep in mind, there are different names for Sculpey (polymer clay I believe it is). Odds are, wherever it is in the UK, it might have a different name. That's something I am always working on, doing the material translation.

Thanks, please to let me know. I'll keep an eye out for it too. Changing the subject a bit.... I was thinking about selling some paintings. However, the money that I would get for them wouldn't be proportional to the amount of time I spend creating the painting. So, really it's better to make something like cards, which take little time and the money is still good. So I could make better money is less time with something such as cards.

Hmm, I was told when pricing art to charge minimum wage for how many hours you worked on it, plus put in cost of supplies. You could always try EBay? I actually have trouble letting my art go, I would have to do cards too, only prints of course. Keep my original for myself

Yes, taking the time and supplies into account... That's why I think hand made cards would be best. They take little time to make and you can sell them for a good price.
See the St. Paul’s Cathedral painting that I'm doing at the moment is taking me ages. If I was to sell it, I would have to put a high price tag on it, for the hours of work that I've put in is huge. If you think about it, if I could earn £10 an hour for making other art themed items, then the price of this painting would now stand at about £450 lol. (45 hours so far) When the painting is finished, it will have taken me about 90 hours in total. So that's £900 lol. I doubt it that someone would pay that much. So, really painting large canvas pictures would not earn that much in proportion to the amount of time spent. Get me?
