Is it not the fact that you converted it back to english that makes it sound wrong?

No Sarah, no translator ;D Timm and I have the same native language. German is too spoken in Austria. I met Timm already a few weeks ago, and we try to arrange another meeting in late spring/early summer to exchange snails.

Translating-programs are very often for *sh** I am sometimes trying to translate some threads with altavista, but most times I can understand them better in Englisch, than having it translated....

Hello Paul, Hello Sarah, Hello everyone English! @paul: It is perfectly okay, after all we do have a "normal" life and a job to earn something for a living. I was not able to get all the things finished I started and wanted to be finished BEFORE our holiday either. That includes finding some snails amongst friends to bring over for swaps. And taking some macro-pictures of the Archachatina shell or look at it through a binocular. Sarah: It is not a must, but if you could make it, it would be nice. I still want Achatina iredalei at any size but of course we can do all the exchanges via normal snail-mail (hey that expression does fit, doesn´t it?). And about German(s): our only agenda for being in this world ist trying to confuse people and make everything complicated. But Gabi is Austrian, so she is okay.........And you could still try to learn some German; at least we are TRYING to learn some English, hehe..... @all: there is no absolute need to meet up. especially as I do not have any snails to bring along, but of course it is much nicer to meet people in person and for real than on a computer screen. But as I said, we can still post the snails as it is now warm enough for safe journeys. I will hopefully have available some snails for exchanges soon, including a smaller relative of Megalobulimus from Chile. Anyway, I will give you my mobile phone number on request via email. At least we will be in London for one day and will visit the zoo. The rest of the time we will be staying in the area of Newbury and Reading if anyone could be bothered. best regards Timm

me again, I missed out some replies I am afraid. LisaLQ: I did not quite understand your remark. Mere pet owners? Is there anyone here that is not a mere pet owner when it comes down to the point? If you meant importing Megalobulimus than I tried to explain that I intend to order a larger amount from Barbados and try to find enough people who will take part so it will be affordable for all of us. I would love to pay for any flights but first of all I would pay for my own flight to South America, maybe you can understand that in some way. So I will start the official "Get-the-Megalobulimus-over-here, NOW!" program at this point. Anyone who wants to take part in the order process can just write me an email. I would need to know how many snails you would want and how many money you are able to spend (keeping in mind that it could be lost at any given time, but I think the exporter has some references). The main problem is, that you would have to trust me as the money is always paid in advance. So you can think about it and I will try to find out the conditions and terms for the import (not to forget the price for a snail) as soon as possible. timm.adam@evertebrata.de all the best Timm

Oh no I didn't mean it like that, I meant that it'd be nice to be able to go and pick up snails from far away places - but for folks like me, that isn't possible. I dont have the money, the time, the knowledge etc to go and do that. I'm just a "get what's available easily" kind of person. What I meant was one day folks like me, who rely on pet shops/internet sellers and message forums like this, will be able to get the rarer snails - but for now it's not possible.
I'm just jealous, that's all ;D

Hi Sarah!
Although I am a invertebrate-madman (or madsnail) I won´t make it to England for fairs. I have enough problems with my familiy making it to some fairs in Germany. But still I would not mark it as impossible as I can get flights for as little as 1 Euro but that is all very spontaneously (oh, that is a very nice English word, but I think I f...ed that up alright) and since the birth of our second child that is something..........eh.......like science-fiction. But you never know, the BTS might bring some reason up to take a plane for a quick visit.
Back to the Megalobulimus-issue: I have posted a request for prices and I hope I will get an answer, at latest when I am back in Germany.
@paul: Yes, dad you did a tremendous job there! I would have some suggestions for names I think, Bob the second. Na...I think the girls are right, it should get a female name after all we are in the 21st century.
best wishes
Timm
