i'd been wondering about seeds so this thread has been really interesting, and i'm definitely going to try the soaking thing
then i read the last post which mentioned oat mix. what's that all about?

Ive been looking at cheaper alternatives, and was wondering would wild bird seed mix, crushed with some limestone flour added be a safe snail mix? and if so how much limestone flour would you add to say 200g of crushed seeds?

i know this is an old thread but i've just read it and i thought i'd tell you about this great little grinder thing you can buy from betterware. ;DIt is designed to grind nuts on top of icecream and stuff but it is absolutely fantastic for grinding up loads of different types of seeds it works really well even on the harder seeds.Last time i looked it was 4.99 P.S it is also effortless to use

i know this is an old thread but im working my way thru reading as much as i can - today i have bought my little girls some sunflower seeds & pumpkin seeds (they love them) - & have soaked some in warm water (thought it may soak better) when they sank to the bottom rather than floated i assumed they had soaked enough & have given them to Scooby & Shaggy - atm they haven't touched them Scooby is still sleeping & Shaggy is attached to his cuttle fish again (i think he is gonna turn into a fish soon) ill give it a few more turns as it may be that they have never been offered them before thanks again guys

I buy shelled pumpkin seeds in Tesco, they are for human consumption in small packets, my snails eat those without them being ground.

You could try germinating the seeds first for a couple of days; this increases the nutritional value by about 3000% - good for getting all the vitamins and nutrients they need.
Also any that don't get eaten I just plant in the substrate. Lentils are going mad already! ;o)
