Hi you lot I want to make the lads some porridge, but this is going to sound really daft - do I make it with milk like I do for us, or with water? So embarrassed asking this...... ;D Thanks Kathy

It's not a stupid question at all. I actually made my snails some porridge last night and they hated it!!! I used just oats and water put it in the microwave on 750W for about erm....1.5 mins or some thing like that. Let it to cool down before giving it to them. My snails never touched it. Don't know why, maybe it's just one of those new things where they eventually grow to like.

I tried it cooked and they refused to eat it. But, if you make it with cold water they love it.

When it is heated the oats blend with the water and form like a mushy mixture. How do you make it with cold water? Surely the oats wouldn't soften up and blend with the water to make a mixture.

It does mix, I was surprised too. It still forms a mushy mixture, just give it time to swell in case you need to add more water.

So with cold water you just leave the oats there to soak for a while until a mixture is formed?

Do you know what it looks like, the sachets of flavoured porridge that you mix water or milk with. They seem to go like that sometimes.

I actually used instant hot oat cereal (like Readybrek but Morrison's own) and made it with warm water, waited for it to swell and soak up, then fed it to them when it had cooled so that there was no risk of it swelling after they'd eaten

:DMy marginatas just love it! They just relax and make that eye-down-thing. So cute ! I've given baby porridge and use lukewarm water. But some time i use gruel as well, wholemeal. They love that too! But my tigers don't like it that mush... / Lotta
