Well, I tried a little experiment this afternoon. I hadn't noticed my 2 fulicas eating with great gusto since I first brought them home 1 1/2 weeks ago.
Sooo, today I did 2 things:
First I offered them a small dish of dry enfamil (I get this for free). They both loved it and eat quite a bit.
Second, I offered them a mixture of various fish pellets. I gave them Nutrafin floating koi pellets, nutrafin max cichlid spirulina sticks, nutrafin cichlid floating pellets, nutrafin freeze dried krill bits, and wardley tiny shrimps. All in total, about 1 large tablespoon. I added several squirts of warm water, popped it into the tank, and let them figure it out on their own.
Well about 2 hours ago I noticed my largest and most active fulica (as yet unnamed), tasting a bit. I left them alone to see if they liked it.
The smaller one went to sleep after eating so much enfamil, lol. But the big guy is nearly finnished eating the entire mixture. Now, this was a tablespoon dried, and this stuff tends to bloat after a while in water, lol. He's eating everything, literally licking the dish clean, lol.
I am surprised at how much interest this mix has perked, but you can bet I will offer it again tomorrow, once both are up and about.
Has anyone else tried this? I wanted to try this as I have much left over fish food (hubby and I used to own a pet store), but our few goldfish won't eat that much, lol.
All the pellets have a lot of fish, shrimp and squid in it, along with aquatic plants and cuttlefish. The koi pellets also have natural color enhancers for red and orange fish. Wonder if it might affect the color of the fulicas?
Anyways, it's late for us, and I am dead tired (though procrastinating going to bed as one of the 7 cats peed on my side of the bed - again).
Good night all
