Ok, I got some instant cereals for young kids, one is made with oats, barley, etc. No salt, sugar, etc added. I was going to try it with my guys see how they like it.
Now the other packed it made with rice flour. I remember reading somewhere about the hazards of carbs. Where does rice flour fall? Is it safe in small quantities or better off not using it at all?
Thanks in advance!

We think rice is ok, it seems to be the consistency of the carbs rather than carbs themselves and I think rice-flour would be ok. I know people use normal flour with no problems. I would suggest you try it in very small amounts and check the faeces. If anything comes out completely undigested it's a problem. In both the pasta and millet cases, the ones who only ate a little survived, it was the others who really pigged out that seemed to block their digestive systems and the undigested millet was obvious in the stools of all those who ate some. In any case, be careful. It is good to know what foods can be fed and someone has to try it but you need to be cautious everytime you try something new. If people hadn't tried things we'd never know the wide-range of foods they can eat. The chances are that someone has already tried rice-flour with no problems, it is common enough and I've never heard anyone ever mention rice or rice flour as a problem. But that could be because they considered it too similar to pasta although I think the consistency of rice will mean it is ok, you can crush rice into a paste, but pasta isn't like that.
