As you may know, my wild-caught Megalobulimus oblongus would only eat leaves; lettuce, dandelion, plantain which makes for a limited diet. The only other food I have managed is porridge and my mix which contains it. Well, the other day I was preparing some Sweet Potato for my other snails (my Megalobulimus won't touch it) and I had the idea to slice it wafer thin so it looked like leaves. Sweet Potato is good for this, you can slice it extremely thin. Well, would you believe it, my Megalobulimus ate it!! I wonder if it is something to do with their mouths, I've never managed to get a great look at them because they tend to only try eating when flat on the food but check this picture out: They do seem to have more of a mouth than other snails, I'm wondering if they can only tackle really soft foods like porridge or thin foods like leaves. Either way, it occured to me that this wafer slicing trick could help us with the feeding problems that have occurred with some of the wild snails. I know some people have found the Lignus difficult to please, with cherry leaves being used successfully. Try slicing the food very very thin to mimic a leaf. It may just work even if it just because they will try it that way.

Paul, maybe you just have an extremely fussy snail? Possibly but I have 2 adults and both are the same. The baby is doing much better, had a bit of a scare when I found him a few days ago not looking well, but I actually got him to eat in front of me. He's been refusing every type of food and it were not for the fact he's growing I'd be really worried. I honestly haven't seen food eaten or faeces since he was born months ago. Until a few days ago that is so I'm hoping he's on solid food now.
