After reading some posts regarding Lignus diet, I decided to try to get them a lemon / citrus tree too. But they are all sold out in the garden centre & Ikea (yes Ikea where I live does sell them), so I decided to go back to the garden centre and pick up other fruit plants. I picked the "Strawberry plants" and thought just to try that, no knowing if they are any good. I set up a slightly bigger tank for my 3 lignus last night, (they were in the reptile plastic tank before) and put in a chunky tree branch, a bark, 2 pots of strawberry plants, cuttlefish etc (see the pic). Beside putting the usual food that I think they like, i.e. apple, kiwi, pear, I also decided to put half cherry tomato, a slice of sweet potato, a 1/4 new potato, cucumber in too. I noticed that they have eaten the sweet potato and a tiny bit of cherry tomato and half of the Strawberry plant (some leaves as I don't have the strawberries in the plant). The pic is taken straight after I set the new tank up. Just about 20 minutes ago, I checked on them again, they are still awake and sliming around, not like the usual they were asleep when I got up (I usually check on them @ around 6 - 7 am). I also have taken them out from the bathroom where my most of my other snails in, to the bedroom, the temp is now 22C day and night instead of 24 - 26 C (bathroom temp) as I don't switch the heating off (not too sure how I can maintain this temp in the Summer though). As you can see, the tank they are in is one of those Ikea tank on wheels, not transparent but milky white. I blocked the big hole of the lid with bubble wrap and just put about 4 tiny holes using the drill. As soon as I open the lid, I noticed that my lignus hide straight away and when I put the lid back on, they come out more likely at the same time. I tried the spread liquidised food on the wall of the tank, but they did not bother. When I first got these 3 lignus, they only ate slices of "fresh" apples, and just munch a tiny bit of sweet potatoes and cucumber but nothing else. They decided that they do not like the cucumber anymore but started to munch the cuttlefish. I soak the cuttlefish in the water for at least half an hour before putting it in the tank, they tend to like it that way. I have not got any cuttlefish powder or oyster shell, so I cannot compare. I just thought I am posting this. I ain't no expert and am still trying different methods.

Gabi, I tried sliced Strawberries in the past, but they did not touch any at all. All I could think is the Strawberries I bought are not sweet enough. They just got mouldy overnight. But they have eaten half of the plant, so at least it's a start.

I have noticed the same thing with cuttle and lignus. They ignored it at first, but it got dirty so i rinsed it off, and one of them started munching on it when it was still wet.

its also interesting about the soaked cuttlebone, none of anyone elses even goes near it... I noticed they have "munched" / "touched" the cuttlefish like Moracai when wet in the past, but not a lot, and after I read the post of what Paul has mentioned that he slices all the food in tiny pieces and Eric has liquidised the food, so I thought its worth to try to soak the cuttlefish (as I have not got the powder form) and it works. They have eaten lots. So I assume they just want everything soft and tiny. I checked on them a few times today and I noticed they have "moved" to different position each time. May be it's the temp suits them better. And they do not hang around on the top of the lid anymore but just on the wall of the tank or even on the floor. Strange.

Have you thought about scraping the powder off with a spoon and giving them cuttelfish paste?

Have you thought about scraping the powder off with a spoon and giving them cuttelfish paste? umm, no. LOL. I touched the cuttlefish and my fingers are all covered with the "powder form" cuttlefish already, I think it's a bit yuk and very messy! Actually I might try that tonight, since the soaked cuttlefish is very delicate already. I probably will get some cuttlefish powder and oystershell since you guys said that's good.

I have reorganised the tank now, it does not look so "empty" and I have put a lot of different type of fruit plants in. (And I have a cat that sit on top of it constantly, probably she tried to keep the warmth and humid in ) I tried the cucumber, with the skin facing upwards, praying them to eat them, but nope, they have not touched them at all. I might try to put some bread tonight and see if they will eat that.

I received my first Lignus last week from Eric2. So far I have had no problems with them eating although it's too early for me to tell what variety they will eat.
They have eaten sweet potato and lettuce and they ate my snail mix! ;D I built a "tree" out of strips of cork bark with a platform that has a very shallow plastic tray attached using cocktail stick nails. I simply put the food on there, almost like it is directly on the bark but obviously flat. They ate a surprisingly large quantity. They also ate the lettuce I had hanging from both the branches and draped down the side of the tank.

They adore sweet potatoes and really for little size snails like that, I am surprise they can really eat a lot. I am going to try the snail mix tonight. I tried the white bread soaked in water first, and it disappeared this morning, so I assume they have eaten that too. They just hate the cucumber, I still cannot get them eat that even with the skin facing up.

Mine always eat cucumber and sweet potato. Tomato is usually a winner and lettuce is hit or miss but in general I don't find them ad hard to feed as other have although my original 2 are far far more picky and shy than they last lot I got.
I also have 14 Lignus eggs now! ;D

Just wanted to mention that the cocktail stick "nail" idea isn't such a bad one. You can push them into cork bark easily enough, perhaps making a hole first with a real nail. Then they can be pushed in and you've got the perfect coat-hooks for food.

I also have 14 Lignus eggs now! ;D Nah, I am not jealous only if my eggs will hatch. I think Eric said the snails he ordered from this seller is a lot healthier and he only lost one snails out of so many. So may be we are lucky to have healthy to have lignus from there. Yes Paul, take pics. It's great to exchange notes what other do with their lignus. I really want the CB lignus (if the eggs decide to hatch) work.

I have been feeding my lignus using 2 garden canes with all the food threaded onto it like a skewer.
It works great and easily removed for cleaning. They picked up really quickly were the food was.

I did ask on another post who else still had there original ones but apart from Gabi's 1 I dont think any others are still alive. Brian.

Did Sarah not posted a pic of hers somewhere on the board? But then she has never really mentioned hers, so I don't know. Yup, you are one of the luckiest one still have the first lot left. I did not have any @ first because I was told it's hard to keep, but I could not resist that when Eric has told me so many about them, so I though might as well try to keep them myself.
