It seems that very little has been happening on this recently (correct me if I'm wrong). Perhaps we should try and kick-start the idea again?

I was thinking more in terms of the whole idea of trying to find out more about snails and trying to educate petshops and such in how to look after them properly.

Danikat, I agree w/ you. Especially the aquatic snails that pet stores keep (the ones that DON'T get fed to the fishies) they are so poorly housed. What a shame.

I agree too. Snails are one type of animal that is much better looked after by the private breeder than by most pet shops. It shows how much snail owners care about their pets, but the shops really should treat their animals just as well. *I hope my comment doesn't sound rude. What I mean is that breeders often make the news for all the wrong reasons - in fact, the breeders you don't hear about are by and large the good ones, that deserve to get a mention! EDIT: Sorry, I got so worked up about what I was trying to say without upsetting everyone that I completely forgot what I was posting for! I'd be happy to participate if you want me on the team.

Aw don't worry Penny, and you do have a point. Not always, but often I also get the impression that the best breedrs of any animal are those who are fairly small scale and in it for the love of it more than for the money. There are exceptions of course, but generally speaking those who view their animals as pets more than 'stock' are likely to treat them the best. Fortunately with snails even the majority of those with the shop style websites are in it primarily for the love of keeping various species. I'm proud to say there are some excellent breeders on this forum, shop and small scale alike

Thanks Ness. That was exactly what I meant, but I sometimes struggle with wording things in the way that I want - especially when I feel strongly about a subject!
