kevin your leopard slugs are beautiful, especially the first one because it is more grey than usual.
are you sure that's an arion rufus? I think arion rufus is a sub-species of arion ater where the slug is coloured quite red or orange. Arion ater come in black, brown, grey and (sometimes) white. The two species have very slight internal differences
kind regards
mike

Another Leopard Slug I found yesterday What I suspect is a Ash Grey Slug, mike you may know for sure, either that or a very dark Leopard Slug, it has some markings on its head, and a cream stripe going down its back, like the Limax cinereoniger pics Ive seen update: Confirmed as Ashy Grey Slug, Limax cinereoniger...Largest slug species in the world, growing upto 12inches long! Cant wait till mine gets that size ;D

www.livinglandscapes.bc.ca/cbasin/molluscs/arionidae.htmli found this website about arion rufus but its just confused me by saying rufus comes in all sorts of colours. but i suppose most of them would be red or orange cus 'rufus' means red. thats a beautiful slug. i remember when i kept slugs. limacidae slugs were my favourite because they had this fingerprint on their mantle which is very pretty kind regards mike

sorry i missed that...yes that is an ashy-grey slug. its beautiful. are you gonna grow it to full size? interestingly, slugs need calcium for their tiny internal shell, so when keeping them bear this in mind.
i really would like a book on slug identification, because i don't know how many british species there are, and there are some in my garden i dont know such as this tiny blue one, and this green one with a ridge on its back.
kind regards
mike

How big is it? I dont think ive seen a green slug in the wild?

yeh cuttlefish is good. i remember i used to use these calcium pellets in the shape of bones and they were like biscuits and the snails loved them. they were from 'small life supplies'
the green slug is sort of greeny-brown and only about 1cm long
kind regards
mike

yesterday when it rained there were loads of slugs on my front lawn. There were loads of arion rufus and those other arion ones. I got the biggest 1 [it is a absolutely lovely light orange one, and its massive!] in a container. i will measure him in a minute.
