"Decollates have a two year life span and during that time will lay as many as 2,000 eggs. After hatching, maturity takes about five months. They normally live in the upper inch of the soil, just under the surface"Taken from: www.realcooltoys.com/decsnail.html

Do you think that the adults ate the baby, or had you removed the eggs? Cannibalism is a fairly common thing in the invertebrate world!

There is a type of snail native to Britain that looks like Rumina decollata but in fact are much smaller. I'm wondering if you mean those. Where do you live?

We have loads of Rumina decollata in our island, seems beneath everystone is flooded by these creatures. Maybe our decollate snails are another subspecies of the one found in mainland Europe. I have once kept one of these snails with my fulicas and nothing happened, the specimen has rarely woken up and was mainly nocturnal. I have never observed it feeding on other snails or eggs but rather on vegetative matter like the fulicas did.
