Anyone have Leopard Slugs in the Garden?

Ive been looking around my garden the last few nights, and some fields and lanes, to try and find Giant Leopard Slugs...No luck so far, which is quite surprising, I had planned to keep some, temporary at first, They are very impressive slugs I think, I think keeping them could learn me about keeping different slugs, their activity, food preferences, egg-laying and so-fourth

I used to find them regular, but am suprised that i havent seen them for a whille..The link describes them as being widespread, but rather local...Anyone happen to notice any in their back gardens ;D

The picture in that link is very distinct. I get similar looking slugs in my back yard. They are the same brown/fawn colour but the darker bits are not as contrasting. I'll try and get a picture and you can decide.

Also, have you thought about Arion rufus, particularly the red variety:





I have seen these knocking about a few times over the years. Pretty impressive slugs I think.

I had a HUGE one of those in my garden last year...he lived under my rabbit hutch and was out on the patio every night. I used to joke about catching him and sending him to Arno lol. Haven't seen him this year though. I'll keep an eye out for him.

Just found two Leopard Slugs up my garden, and about 50 brown and blueish slugs...Took the two leopards ;D

One's just like the picture in the link I posted, only a lot smaller, about 5cm or so..The others about 1.5cm, both are enjoying some lettuce and move pretty fast I noticed for slugs ;D Still looking for massive slugs though

have loads of the orange rufus slug thingys, and if you dont mind me asking this question ........... what is that thing ont he end of the tail? its poo right? where does it come from?? lol. you now just made me go outside for a leopard slug hunt

the slug [the last one] looks [glow=green,2,300]alot[/glow] like most of the slugs in my garden some quite big.

If your having trouble finding them I could send you some when I collect some more, Im searching my garden later for some more Leopard Slugs, hopefully I will find some adults

The slugs wouldnt cost anything
They didnt cost me nothing, just pay the p+p cost, im not sure how much the post office charges for the weight of parcel they would be sent in, I'll work all that out when Ive collected the slugs...I'll be looking for the large red slugs also..

oh yeah. the post said swap, but now i doubt you'd want a slug from my garden which you'd probably find anywhere else. i found a REALLY friendly 1 today and bought him in

yeah, the orange version of the red ones is very common. when i looked in a nature book once i saw the red slug thing, then realised the red slugs are exactly the same as the orange ones but red. not so interested in the red ones though. the l. [leopards slugs] look a bit more interesting. hmm, just looked at the page you gave a link to and saw it said woods. maybe i could go to the woods in the [glow=yellow,2,300]SUMMER HOLIDAYS!!!!!![/glow]

Theres several small forests less than two miles from my house...I'll go and search there later this week, I just had a quick search of my garden, found loads of the small brown slugs, no more striped leopards for now though

we've got a woods right near us, about 4mins walk away. but it goes off in the other direction, not in the direction of our house.

apparantly their carnivores, so I wont be keeping other slugs with them then ;D
unless of course its for food...
