I have question. I've recently read a paper (Nisbet) that mentions the need for living bacteria in the substrate that is required for digestion, which your study backs up. But the question is, where do these useful bacteria reside? It mentions not cleaning the tank too much, and only removing really contaminated food and faeces. So I wanted to ask you if you think this "beneficial" flora and fauna congregrates on faeces and food or is it in the soil generally? I'm trying to figure out if I have to leave food and faeces in longer than normal or if it is a case of simply not sterilising the substrate very often.
I've actually typed the paper up into a PDF so I'll be making it available very soon.
