agreed reptile stuff can be expensive but thena t the end of the day its absic reptile welfare, if ya cant afford it, you shouldnt be keeping them imo. Not all reptile stuff has to be expensive though. If you can find it for a good price then you should be keeping them. People shouldn't have to pay stupid money just because some people think they can get it from them. There are places that don't rip people off, so people are able to keep pets that they want. Obviously if they haven't got enough money for things the pets really need, then no they shouldn't be keeping them.

I think I read somewhere that when it got colder the snails did hibernate almost the next day, I don't know if they knew it was actually winter but they knew to hibernate incase it was going to stay cold like that for ages!
I don't know how they would know it's deffo winter as sometimes the temps drop low for a few days and it isn't winter but they still start to hibernate and then they go and do it in winter aswell. If that makes sense lol.

I have no idea really. The temp in my room is normally the same all year round and they don't act differently. It was very hot this past month or so and they didn't seem any more or any less active then either!
And it doesn't sound stupid. I love thinking about things like that lol It makes a change from the "normal" questions people ask, whether it's about snails or not!

hamsters hibernate, but do fine indoors without it? hibernation is just a way of dealing with the stresses on foodsupply and the body that a temperature change will inflict... if its not there no need?
saying that, that isnt the case for the tortoise is it?

hibernation can be avoided, but its a lot more difficult then temps, you need light cycle, humidity etc really, using light cycle and temps is possible though.

I don´t use any heat mat, I hope that will not be necessary. Snails will deal well with it, here. I´ll put on south faced window, if necessary ( avoiding direct exposure to sun) on winter and on a north faced one in summer, spring and autumn.
