Hi all
My local pet shop has started selling Birch chippings(lol I think it is) would they be OK for substrate.

I think birch chippings could work as a substrate. But wood chippings don't hold moister well.
There are one particular wood chippings you must avoid and that's cedar wood. They are dangerous to reptiles and I think that they could be dangerous to snails as well. I don't know how other coniferous wood would effect the snails but as long as it is deciduous wood, I think it would be of no harm.
Why don't you use peat instead? It holds moisture much better, the snails can dig into it and it's way cheaper.

But iy dosent matter, in the wild there would probably be soil and dirt. They wouldnt mind, and if they get REALLY messy then give them a bath!!
