I think this is the roseolabiata form of Achatina achatina. The shell has a length of 151mm and was collected by children for food. It was found after rain on farmlands/scrub area near Axim, western region, Ghana. I also think this is the first colour image of this subspecies? Attachments:

Is this the same snail. -> www.femorale.com.br/shellphotos/detail.asp?species=Achatina+achatina+bayoli+Morelet%2C+1888 ? I found my way to this database when I was searching pictures about rarer achatina species which I can't remember what they look like if I just see their species name.

Hi Heydihoo..........thanks for your interest, I'll do my best to post more, meantime I sent you a PM . Hi Crossless...........your link is to the form Achatina achatina bayoli Morelet, 1888. You got good eyes ! Both the forms roseolabiata and bayoli are pattern forms. The first has a color pattern of the of dark brown wavy or zigzag stripes with a pink columella and parietal wall IN ADDITION TO a the outer lip being also pink over the inner margin. The second form (bayoli) is characterized by the stripes being much more widely spaced, often broken into spots or dashes, and (though not mentioned in the description) the normally white background shell takes on a beige brown appearance and the columella may be only partially pinkish or may also become brownish. These differences are better observed in specimens where the periostracum has been removed. So in a way the last image I posted was in fact a cross between both of these forms, but is the best example I have of the pink liped form. In fact a very rare and unique specimen ! Here is another A. achitina bayoli collected in Ghana. Only a small portion of the columella is pink, the border becomes a darker brown, the background color of the shells is more light brown than white and the dark stripe are very widely spaced and broken.
