Hi @ll, Aegopis verticillus is one of the largest glossy snails ( Zonitidae) in Europe. Aegopis verticillus, Picture: Robert Nordsieck. In Austria it is quite frequent in some areas, in Vienna and the Vienna woods it is even said to be the most frequent snail in some parts. This specimen I encountered when I went for a little walk around the Research Institute of Wildlife Ecology on the Wilhelminenberg in Vienna. This institute, by the way, is quite interesting - it is one of the Konrad Lorenz Institutes in Austria, apart from the original one in Altenberg in Lower Austria. The other snails I found on the way you can have a look at on my gallery pages. Kind regards Robert

Hi @ll,
here we go. I added the picture that was missing. The shell of Aegopis verticillus is about 26 to 30 mm (a little bit more than an inch) wide.
Kind regards Robert

So it is. And besides it feeds on snail eggs and I think also on smaller snails.
Kind regards Robert
