Greetings, I have been a longtime lurker, but had nothing to contribute until now, really. I kept about 100 local snails in 2 large outdoor planters as a child. I remember getting books out of the library to take care of them, and convincing my parents how vitally important buying cuttlebone was. Me and my little brother took care of them for a year before we decided to let them all go during the same season we caught them. They were a mix of Cepaea nemoralis and Cepaea hortensis. They laid many eggs, and hatched hundreds of tiny perfect crystalline baby snails. We always let the babies go. All our snails had different personalities, some were more curious, some were timid, others were greedy and lazy. I fell completely in love with these little animals. To this day, I rescue sidewalk snails while my friends and significant others look on in mystified amusement. I just recently decided to get some more. I'm starting out with local ones again, and maybe eventually seeing if I can get a permit for Achatina achatina, as I'm in Canada, and that's the only large snail allowed here. Today I bought a terrarium, and a bunch of fun happy snail accessories, and I'm taking a trip inland to see if I can find the 3 perfect little darlings. I'll keep everyone updated in the regular threads.... Pleased to meet you all! ~Kat
