FYI Posting:
BEDIM (Bureau pour l'Echange et la Distribution de l'Information sur le Mini-Elevage) is a Belgian "non-profit making international organization devoted to identification, processing and diffusion of information and data related to minilivestock all over the world and to rational and sustainable use of non-conventional animals bred under control and of their products" (quote from “Home” page), which issues a bi-annual periodical with introductions to research articles on relevant topics of interest to breeders of invertebrates (and some other small creatures).
This periodical is easily accessible to the private keeper and other persons interested in the subject due to its lack of a copyright, low subscription cost, lack of institutional affiliation requirement for subscribers, and free electronic version
(www.bib.fsagx.ac.be/bedim/eng/production/bulletin; see link to “Archives”). The texts are presented in French, Spanish and English.
This may be a useful current-research locator to forum members (sample topics – located in the archived issues: dietary effects of specific fruits/vegetables on the growth, fecundity and egg-laying performance of particular species; bacterial growth in enclosed environments; and optimal calcium sources for particular species). While it is true that the format is geared towards breeders of edible populations, the research is also pertinent to casual keepers of such animals.
Below are the snail-related research articles introduced in the most recent bulletin (2006 vol. 15 no 2) [Abstracts of these articles are available at www.bib.fsagx.ac.be/bedim/production/bulletin/pdf/v15n2.pdf; subscription information is listed on page 33 of that PDF document]:
